Dirth of Law Firm Innovation?
The Innovation Awards were created two years ago to recognize true creativity and innovation of law firms worldwide. In 2004, the program elevated four firms with really cool ideas.
Not this year. The group, backed by brand-name sponsors, awarded only two awards in the Market Disruptors category. No awards were given in the other three categories. Here is a quote from their web site:
"While entries were received in all four categories, this year the judges regrettably found no winners in the categories of Client Service Virtuosos, Knowledge Stars or Leader Ships, concluding that none of the law firms entering had attained the level of innovation required to receive an award."

From http://www.innovactionaward.com/:
For the second consecutive year, the College of Law Practice Management, in concert with Edge International, launched its global search for ingenuity in the management of the practice of law. Designed to inspire creative thinking in a field known for its over-reliance on precedent, the InnovAction Awards are intended not only to identify effective innovation but also to inspire it through international recognition.
We were again pleased this year to receive numerous entries from across four different countries: the United States, Canada, New Zealand, and the UK. Our international panel of judges gathered in July to review the submissions and determine their short list of candidates. They have been divided into these categories:
Client Service Virtuosos
Sponsored by the ABA Law Practice Management Section
Those evidencing the best innovation in client service or delivery.
Market Disruptors
Sponsored by Greenfield/Belser Ltd.
Those who have displayed the best innovation in the creation of an entirely new revenue stream or market development.
Knowledge Stars
Sponsored by Baker Robbins & Company
Those who have made the most innovative advances in skill-building or knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Leader Ships
Sponsored by Astin Tarlton
Those who have taken the most innovative action toward improving their internal management or firm efficiency.
While entries were received in all four categories, this year the judges regrettably found no winners in the categories of Client Service Virtuosos, Knowledge Stars or Leader Ships, concluding that none of the law firms entering had attained the level of innovation required to receive an award.
